CMS Releases 2026 MIPS Payment Adjustment Information - Targeted Review Period Open Through November 14 The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released
Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) payment adjustment information for
the 2024 performance period / 2026 MIPS payment year.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) payment adjustment information for the 2026 MIPS payment year. Physicians’ 2024 MIPS final scores will
determine the payment adjustments applied to
their 2026 Medicare reimbursements for covered
professional services. These adjustments may be positive,
negative, or neutral, depending on performance.
Action Required: Review Your 2024
MIPS Final Score:
The American Medical Association (AMA) urges physicians
to review their 2024 MIPS performance feedback and final scores as soon as
possible. The Targeted Review period—during which
you can request CMS to review your MIPS score or payment adjustment—is open until
November 14, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET.
To review your MIPS final score and request a targeted review:
- Sign in to the Quality Payment Program (QPP) website using
your HARP credentials.
- Click “View
Feedback” on the homepage to access your performance
feedback.
- If you identify any
discrepancies, click “Targeted Review” to
submit a request before the November 14 deadline.
CMS may ask for supporting documentation depending on the nature of your
request.
Examples of When to Request a
Targeted Review:
You may consider filing a targeted review if:
- Data were submitted
under the wrong Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) or National Provider
Identifier (NPI).
- You have Qualifying
APM Participant (QP) status and should not receive a
MIPS payment adjustment.
- Performance categories
were not reweighted appropriately due to extreme or uncontrollable
circumstances.
Government Shutdown Update:
The AMA has confirmed that CMS continues to accept and review Targeted Review
requests during the federal government shutdown. However, some
decisions may be delayed due to reduced staffing and the
need for broader CMS review. No extension of the Targeted
Review deadline is currently planned.
Resources:
For Shared Savings Program ACOs, ensure at least one ACO representative
holds a HARP account with the Security Official role to
access performance feedback and manage reviews.
