Aims & Scope Statement In publication since 1904, Missouri Medicine: The Journal of the Missouri State Medical Association (Missouri Medicine) was created to educate and contribute to the art and science of medicine in Missouri, the United States, and globally. Clinical and scientific articles are peer-reviewed through the Missouri Medicine’s distinguished Editorial Board. Perspectives, opinion submissions, and feature articles are reviewed for originality, content, purpose, and relevance to clinical medicine. Instructions for Authors/Submissions are clearly stated, well-defined, and rigorously followed. Readers include physicians, physicians-in-training, researchers, and ancillary healthcare providers. Missouri Medicine receives submissions from across the United States and many countries world-wide. First world literature reports are often published. Missouri Medicine invites opinion, perspective, medical-legal, clinical, and scientific manuscripts and the reserves the right to edit for clarity and length and to publish the article. All articles, editorials, letters, and advertisements published represent the opinions of the authors and advertisers, and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or endorsement of the Missouri State Medical Association or the institution with which the author or product or service is affiliated unless clearly specified. Missouri Medicine reserves the right to make the final decision on all content and advertisements. Peer Review Process Missouri Medicine Contributing Editors and Editorial Board members are selected on the basis of exceptional professional accomplishment and expertise in their specialty. Clinical and scientific articles are peer-reviewed through the Missouri Medicine Editorial Board and physician and medical specialists based on content/theme/medical specialty. Peer-reviewers are board-certified, and in active practice. Members are selected on the basis of reputation and research. Experts are drawn from six Missouri Schools of Medicine on eight campuses. Perspectives, opinion submissions, and feature articles are reviewed for content, purpose, and clarity. Submission packets must follow Instructions for Authors available at www.msma.org/Instructions-for-Authors. Manuscripts without the Copyright, Graphic and Photography form, and a Disclosure of Relevant Financial Relationships form delays the peer-review and publishing process. All Authors must disclose if artificial intelligence was used and if so for what purpose. The policy is based on JAMA criteria. Incomplete submission packets are returned until correct. Authors receive notification of receipt within 10 days. Peer review is usually completed within 30-45 days of receipt. Submission of article packet does not guarantee publication. Missouri Medicine does not charge or collect fees for manuscript processing and/or publishing materials. Ethics & Research Policies Missouri Medicine adheres to the following statements:
| Access Missouri Medicine, a bi-monthly medical journal with an international following and high citation volume, is published for the members of the Missouri State Medical Association, which is included in their annual membership dues. MSMA member physicians-in-training receive a link to the digital Missouri Medicine. Subscribers and non-member pay an annual fee of $120 for paper copies. Missouri Medicine is indexed by Index Medicus, MEDLINE, PubMed, ProQuest, and Scopus. Content appears on EBSCO Research databases. Missouri Medicine is open access. Since 2010, complete issues are archived at PubMed Central. No charges are made for viewing all published content. Archiving Complete issues of Missouri Medicine are archived at PubMed Central, and in digital format available open access at www.msma.org/Missouri-Medicine-Library since 2010. Copyright & Licensing Unless agreed to in writing, Missouri Medicine retains and is protected by copyright. Every article requires a Copyright, Graphic, and Photography form and a Disclosure of Relevant Financial Relationships form signed/emailed and initialed by all authors. Missouri Medicine follows guidelines for permission to reprint. These policies are published at www.msma.org/Instructions-for-Authors. Funding Missouri Medicine: The Journal of the Missouri State Medical Association (MSMA) has been published since 1904. MSMA is a 125-year-old medical non-profit organization. MSMA works to improve the quality and quantity of medical care for physicians and their patients. The Journal works to promote collegiality and cooperation among physicians. Missouri Medicine receives revenue through subscriptions, advertising, reprints, and the Missouri State Medical Association Health Education Foundation. Our journal is provided in digital form free to MSMA medical students and residents without charge.
