Meet MSMA's 2025-2026 President: Brian D. Biggers, MD, FACS
Brian D. Biggers, MD, FACS, was born in Springfield, Missouri, and raised in the nearby town of Marshfield, Missouri, as the son of Kenneth and Sondra Biggers. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University), where he received numerous accolades, including Outstanding Student in the College of Natural and Applied Sciences. He continued his education at the University of Missouri–Columbia, where he earned his medical degree and was honored as the Outstanding Student in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery. Dr. Biggers completed his surgical residency at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, where he was named Outstanding Chief Resident. He then pursued advanced training in Breast Surgical Oncology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Biggers returned to Springfield, Missouri, where he entered private practice with Crighton Olive Dunn Surgical Group for over 10 years. He then joined the Ferrell Duncan Clinic (now Cox Medical Group), where he has practiced for more than five years. A committed advocate for organized medicine, Dr. Biggers has been a member of the Missouri State Medical Association since 2010 and served as president of the Greene County Medical Society. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is also a member of several prestigious medical organizations, including the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Biggers is dedicated to medical education. He serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Missouri and is the Clerkship Director for Surgery at the University of Missouri–Springfield Clinical Campus. Throughout his career, Dr. Biggers has served on numerous committees and boards and has been involved in church and community activities, including coaching youth baseball. Dr. Biggers has been married to his wife, Abby, for nearly 25 years. Together they are the proud parents of three sons: Brayden, Grayson, and Kennon. | During his presidency of the MSMA, Dr. Biggers intends to focus on enhancing medical education, including funding and expansion for the state of Missouri. He is also committed to advocating for the protection of the scope of practice and improving access to quality healthcare for all Missourians. |
